Assignment 2

Considering the preliminary text on Kate Chopin as well as our classroom discussion, leave a comment stating your position on whether or not you think "The Awakening" deserved the bad criticism that it did.

You may want to consider but do not have to answer all of the following questions in your post:
Do you think that Chopin was "before her time" when she wrote this novel?
Do you think she meant it to come across as a feminist novel?
Did Kate Chopin's life influence the story?

Assignment 1 - The Awakening

We are going to study Kate Chopin's "The Awakening." I chose to read the version edited by Nancy A. Walker because it provides supplementary texts that will be helpful for our classroom discussions. For class on Wednesday, I would like each of you to read the preliminary text about Kate Chopin's life. This will help us gain insight as to why Kate Chopin was so ahead of her time with this novel.
